Why 4031?

Communication, creativity and storytelling. These are three concepts that drive my life from education, to my extra curriculars and even in my personal life. So, how does MC 4031 play into these items in a series? I was drawn to this class because it plans to expand on my favorite part of advertising, which is creativity and its application.
I have taken a few mass communication classes thus far in my time at LSU, but this semester I’m turning on all the burners and packing my schedule with classes focused on my major. After taking classes such as visual communication and digital branding, I’ve started to see what kind of classes I like. I was excited to learn about this class, which would be expanding on classes like these, which I have excelled in and thoroughly enjoyed.
In this class, I hope to further expand my knowledge of the creative side of the advertising industry and delve into the intricacy of its application. I want to push my talents and explore ideas and concepts that may be outside my comfort zone. I also think that the ideas of creatives have much to say about the creative as an individual. With that being said, I hope to learn just as much about myself in this class as I will about the industry.
Through learning about myself and the industry, I hope to see this class give me a glimpse of where I fit in the grand scheme of advertising. I know I like the creative side, but I want to expand on that. What type of creative work do I like to do? What kind of agency would I work for? Do I want to work for a agency? These are just some of the questions that I ask myself as I see the ominous clouds of graduation looming in the not too distant future.
After surveying my thoughts on this course and my placement in it, I’m realizing just how excited I am to be here. A class like this is a rare find. Getting the opportunity to learn about the exact things that drive you and being taught how to execute them to the standards of the Manship School, now who could pass that up?

Mass Comm 2015

This class has been an eye opener for me. It has made me realize how much I enjoy the communications industry and further affirmed my career choice in advertising. I loved working on some of the bigger picture projects like layouts for websites and posters and my final project. I have also learned that more technical things like HTML coding are definitely not suited for me. I’ll leave that one to the computer science majors. Beyond that, there was no project that I felt went over my head. I truly felt like I was in my element and these projects challenged me and my creativity. This class has showed me the numerous facets of the visual side of the communication industry. At times it felt intimidating, but exciting at the same time. I look forward to graduating and getting my feet wet in the word of Mass Communication.

Website Critique

http://www.apple.com

Apple’s website is the epitome of what a website should be. It is visually appealing and very simple to use. Any user can access this website and easily find what they are looking for. I have been using this website for years and have yet to have an issue with it. There isn’t anything I would change about the site, but I do challenge apple to look into making revisions on the site since it has not been changed in a while.

Church Find

When those who are regular churchgoers go on vacation outside of their area or travel anywhere for that matter, it can be hard for them to find a mass to fulfill their Sunday obligation. Therefore, I would like to create a website that addresses this issue in a simple and easy-to-use design. The website would be called Church Anywhere and would allow its users to search any area for mass times. It would also give the option to include the religious affiliation of the church, times of the masses, and a radius of distance that the user is willing to travel. Its audience would be churchgoers who are traveling or those that are in a nearby city and simply want to find a mass. The website would be available on the web but would be primarily for mobile devices because most people would be accessing the service when traveling. I think this website would solve a great dilemma for many people in an easy and inviting way.”

The client gave me creative freedom to interpret this idea however I felt best. Here’s what I came up with.

Solutions Web Site

Solutions.com has a very basic concept behind it. It provides solutions to everyday problems. The layout for the website is very simple featuring a place to type a problem on the home page. All the user needs to is type in their problem and click the “solve” button. This will lead to another page which will list solutions provided by the website itself, and popular solutions from other websites.
