A technological battle is being fought. In one corner, weighing in at 130 grams and wielding a five inch display, the Samsung Galaxy S4. On the other side of the ring, weighing in at 112 grams with a stunning four inch retina display is the iPhone 5.
Now before I continue, I think it is only fair to say that I am an avid fan of Apple, especially the iPhone. I’ve actually owned every iPhone to date and cannot wait for the upcoming generation.
Meanwhile on the battle field…
The two introduction videos for these mobile devices perfectly depict what I view as the mission of each company in releasing each phone. They both inform the customer of the basic features and identify with their own unique brand, but beyond this, the videos are very different. The iPhone 5 video does a better job enlightening a customer about the product. Apple has members of their company speak not only about the phone, but the philosophy of it, along with their passion for the company and their products. The Samsung video is simply specifications about the phone with some unidentified music in the background. With that being said, the iPhone video does a better job entertaining, not only because the video is more personable, but the consumer is constantly seeing the phone in use in the real world, not in front of a green screen for five minutes. This also allows the customer to visualize himself or herself actually using the phone in everyday life. This is an excellent persuasion technique used by Apple that Samsung unfortunately overlooked. Knock out!
Apple – 1, Samsung – 0
